Schools Out For The Summer...for reals this time

At 11:00 I said so long to my kindergarten friends.
It's been a good five weeks, but I'm thrilled to be done.
(my teammate, Jill, and I with our little Kinder class)

It really was amazing to work with such a small number of students...can you imagine if REAL school was like this? Oh the possibilities.

Now my summer vacation can start and just in time too because the weather is screaming summer vacation outside. Nice and hot. So if you'll excuse me, the pool and I have a very important date.

Schools Out For the Summer!!!

(air guitar here)
(jump for joy here)
(can't stop smiling here)

I'm done! I'm done! I'm done!

Today we cleaned up our rooms, watched a movie, had root beer floats, and played outside in the 100 degree heat.
A good day if you ask me...except I've had a splitting headache all day. Last night I whacked my head against the corner of the counter and gashed it open.  It's still throbbing...I asked the kids if they wanted to see something gross.
"YEEEAAAAAH!!"
So I showed them my head.
"EEWWWWWW!!!"

We celebrated with our own teacher feast during lunch.
My co-worker retired today!
It's amazing to be around a veteran teacher...someone who's seen it all, knows so much about teaching.
It's inspiring.
(I know what you're thinking but don't worry....that's sparkling grape juice)

This day has been a long time coming, but it's finally here.
Now I'm off to go get ready for date night with my husband :)

Why, hello sun!

We missed you.
The sun is soothing to the soul
After 3 days of gloom my soul needs some sun.
I'm looking forward to my evening walk tonight, I've been cooped up inside for too many days.
We're down to 9 days of summer school.
It's going pretty well...as well as being stuck inside while the rest of the world is playing at the pool can be.  My students are finally getting two digit subtraction, which is worthy of a hooray!
If I wasn't doing summer school I would probably be complaining about how bored I was, so it's probably okay that I have something to do...maybe next year though I can just 'work' on my tan.

Hope your Monday was sunny!

Compliments

Today the incoming third graders were making Combination to 10 Story Books.
We've been working really hard on combinations to 10...you know, 9+1, 6+4...

Anyways, we got to illustrate our books with crayons AND MARKERS...markers are a big deal in elementary school.
I drew a few examples on the board and as I was drawing I heard lots of whispers.

"She's so good!"
"Look how she drew those pumpkins!"
"She should be an art teacher!"

My pictures weren't that great and they were giving me the nicest compliments.
Then a student whispered, "She has to know how to draw. ALL teachers have to know how to draw to become a teacher."

One of the things I love most about teaching is all the compliments our students give us. You can be having the world's worst hair day, have a pimple the size of your eyeball, your outfit doesn't match, just got over the flu and the kids will still think you're the most beautiful person they've ever seen.

I think we should give a sincere compliment to at least one person a day...it will make their heart smile.

Tired Toes

Today we took the kids out to play kickball for their specials time.
Most of the girls were standing around screaming when the ball came whizzing passed their heads or looking at the butterflies flittering by.

Me: "GET THE BALL!"
Girl: "What?"
Me: "THE BALL! IT JUST ROLLED PASSED YOU...GET IT!"
Girl: slowly walking to get the ball
Me: jumping up and down "HURRY! TAG HIM TAG HIM!"
Girl: picks up the ball...saunters back.
Me: "Wow great hustle."

I don't want to brag or anything but I totally got like 15 kids out...and I was even wearing flip flops ;)

When we got back to class the boys asked if next time we could play boys vs. girls.  Then one of the little boys said, "No way! If Mrs. Wolfe is on their team they'd win!"

I guarantee your self-esteem is going to shoot through the roof if you play sports with little kids:)

I Actually Like Summer School?!

I remembered today why I love teaching.
Summer school doesn't allow any behavior kids and it makes such a difference in my day.
School is SO MUCH FUN!
We can be silly and goofy and have such a good time together.

My classes are so sweet and caring.  I literally almost face planted when I tripped on my computer cord and there were so many, "Are you okay Mrs. Wolfe!?" And when the Promethean Board wasn't going my way the kids sat so quietly and patiently while I tried to figure it out.  IT WAS AMAZING!

Today we were playing Around the World addition and two boys tied on EVERY card...they were doing awesome!  My class was laughing hysterically because every time I flipped the card they shouted the answer in unison.  Even I couldn't help but laugh until my eyes watered.
"Mrs. Wolfe! You're face is all red!!"
I love these moments.
I wish we had more moments like these.

Today I am smiling....a lot

And So It Begins...

Today is the first day of summer school.
I'm teaching two half day sessions of math...my family is probably laughing right now because I may not be the greatest mathematician there ever was.. But I assure you I can teach elementary school math with no problem.

It's been a struggle to wrap my mind around the fact that my co-workers are currently still sleeping and I am getting ready for work like normal.
Some moments I get really excited about the fact that we can get some of these kids on grade level and then some moments, well most moments I want to lay in the sun and not have a care in the world right now.

Well there's no turning back now.
Here I go.
Wish me luck.

It will be good.

Margo

I took Margo to the vet...just a normal check-up to make sure my little darling girl is healthy.
She is.

Wilson thought I was finally getting rid of his little sister,
but she came back
scared,
mad,
a little sore from her shots.
It was a pretty relaxing day. We had the day off from school.
I took a nap on the couch.
Listened to the rain.
Smelled the rain.
I really needed a moment to relax.

Four more days of school!
Oh wait...then I'm teaching summer school...not fun 1/2 day do whatever you want summer school. Full day, intense, get kids to proficiency summer school.
I can't even think about that now.

Right now I'm enjoying the rain
and Margo balancing her nap on my hip.
