Forever My Babies You'll Be

Martin and I keep explaining to Wilson and Margot that pretty soon there will be a new baby in the house. Martin tells them that it will be loud and smelly, which leaves both the cats with a sense of fear in their eyes. I reassure them that the baby will only be loud and smelly sometimes
But most importantly, as silly as it sounds, we reassure the cats that we have enough love for everyone, and they will secretly always be our babies.

smile when your heart is breaking

Truth time...today was the hardest day of teaching I've ever experienced. I got home and completely broke down, crying until there were no more tears left to cry.  But after pep talks from everyone closest to me and advice that will get me through I can wake up and go again tomorrow. And maybe I'll need a little encouragement everyday this year, but that's what my family is for.
This evening I took a long, long, long, hot shower to calm myself down (sorry neighbors if you no longer have any hot water)and when I went to take out my contacts I saw this in the case.  My eyelash had formed the perfect smiley face. It was looking up at me telling me that life was going to be okay.
And of course this little guy makes me smile everyday, especially when he sleeps in my husband's underwear basket.

I even bore my cat

I can just hear her little voice, "Ummm excuse me mom? This is super boring..."

Yesterday I was pretty Bored, with a capital B. It's amazing how even if you're not doing anything with your husband, just having them around makes you feel...well, less bored.

I rearranged some things.
Emptied out some things.
Threw away some things.
Put things away.
Took waaay too many pictures of my cat

see?  b o r i n g.

It's boring being bored.  I was trying so hard to find something to do that I actually put the laundry away...Martin can thank me later.

I'd better find a new hobby during the next two weeks or I'm going to end up with an embarrassing amount of cat pictures...

I Can't Resist

I know you probably don't like staring at pictures of my sweet cats...but I had to share this picture I took of little Princess Margo.   She was just a little puff ball laying on our white sheets (hmm black cats and white sheets....) and it was the perfect photo op.
She is so cute I can barely stand it :)

Dear Wilson,
I'm thinking that you are the most adorable little boy on this earth.
I love you SO much.

Your Mommy

The Family Bed

I have not been sleeping well.
The past few nights I can't fall asleep and when I finally do, I wake up almost every hour.
I think I have it figured out.
It may have to do with two furry four-legged friends and a two legged man.
The cats are always rambunctious when we're trying to fall asleep, but lately they've been a little needy.
Both cats snuggle closely to my legs, sandwiching them in.
I yell out, "HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO MOVE MY LEGS?!"
But they're already asleep.
So I curl my legs up to my chest and then Margo moves up next to my legs and Wilson scoots in even closer.  Now my lungs are being crushed by my knees and my feet are beginning to fall asleep.
Then to make it even worse, my husband took up the ENTIRE bed last night.  I was forced to sleep in a tiny ball hanging off the edge of the bed while the rest of my family was sprawled out with inches of extra space surrounding them.
I just dug my heel into my husband and he moved over very quickly.  (What was I supposed to do?)
I think we need to invest in a California King sized bed or make a no children allowed rule.  More is definitely not merrier.

How My Night Went

My night went a little something like this...

10:00pm Get ready for bed
10:15pm Lights out
10:30pm Toss and turn...Margo and Wilson tear down the hallway chasing each other
11:00pm Toss and turn...Margo and Wilson try to look out the window crashing into the blinds
2:00am Wake up to a loud crash and sharp pain in my arm
2:01am Run and turn on the light
2:03am My arm is bleeding with claw marks
2:05am The plant, my alarm clock, book, and glasses are no longer on the bedside table.
2:06am All the dirt from the plant is now on the pile of clean laundry
2:08am See a little black tail behind the door
2:09am Huff, Puff, and growl as I clean up dirt clods
2:15am Glare at my cat
2:16am Pet my cat and tell her it's okay because she's so cute
2:17am Martin is still sound asleep...of course

Good Life

I think my cats have a pretty good life.
Take a nap
Take a bath
Eat
Take a nap
Look out a window
Take a nap
Look out another window

It is such a beautiful day I wish they could spend some time outside...but no such luck. I have all the windows open so they can imagine what it might be like.  Sometimes I feel bad that our apartment is so small, but then I remember that we rescued them from a not so good life so that they can now have an amazing life with us.

Margo

I took Margo to the vet...just a normal check-up to make sure my little darling girl is healthy.
She is.

Wilson thought I was finally getting rid of his little sister,
but she came back
scared,
mad,
a little sore from her shots.
It was a pretty relaxing day. We had the day off from school.
I took a nap on the couch.
Listened to the rain.
Smelled the rain.
I really needed a moment to relax.

Four more days of school!
Oh wait...then I'm teaching summer school...not fun 1/2 day do whatever you want summer school. Full day, intense, get kids to proficiency summer school.
I can't even think about that now.

Right now I'm enjoying the rain
and Margo balancing her nap on my hip.

Big Helpers

We had an evening of helpers last night...

Wilson helped with dinner...

and Margo helped dye my hair.

Yesterday was spent helping my sister with a few of her own projects and then cleaning the apartment until I was exhausted.  But now things are squeaky clean again and I'm ready to tackle the last three weeks of school...yes you heard me! Only THREE more weeks...thirteen days, 104 hours. But who's counting anyways?

Just Five Minutes PLEASE!!

I don't have any kids of my own yet, but I think being the mother of two, two year old cats is giving me the training I need.
I seriously only want five minutes to myself...five minutes without anyone typing on the computer keyboard...five minutes without anyone dipping their paw into my drink...five minutes without having to rescue anyone from the bookshelf they now cannot get down from.
The minute I shut ANY door there are poor pitiful cries and little black paws reaching under the door. "PLEASE MOM! Please let me in! I need you NOW! I just love you is all.
(I may remember being this obnoxious to my mom when I was little.  Anytime she was in the bathroom or was taking a rest..."Mom? Mommy? Are you in there? Are you sleeping? Is dinner ready yet?")

germs

Today I woke up with a sore throat. Half of my class seems to have a cough and cold and you know how good five year olds are at covering their mouths...

"Achoo!"
"Cover your mouth please!"
"Cough, Cough, Hack, Hack"
"Cover your mouth please!"
"Achoo!"
...ewww I felt that one

I went back to bed and slept for another five hours this afternoon. I cannot be sick! We have too much end of the year testing at school :(
I think the perfect cure for myself is to snuggle with my sweet little children...annnddd maybe take some medicine.

How My Morning Goes

At exactly 4:50 EVERY morning, without fail...my cats begin to wake me up.
I usually shout out that, "My alarm does not go off for another 30 minutes so please go away!!"

It doesn't help.

4:50 AM: Margo decides it's time for me to wake up by crying as loudly as she possibly can in my ear.
4:53 AM: Margo then decides it's time to give me a bath.
4:57 AM: The purring starts. 1,4000 times louder than a jet engine.
5:00 AM: Margo gets pushed off the bed
5:01 AM: Margo jumps back on the bed
5:03 AM: Margo gets pushed off the bed
5:04 AM: SILENCE!
5:05 AM: Wilson decides it's time for him to give it a whirl
5:07 AM: Wilson thinks it's a fun idea to sleep on my face
5:09 AM: Margo jumps back on the bed
5:10 AM: Margo thinks it's a fun idea to sleep on my head
5:13 AM: Both cats get placed on top of Martin
5:16 AM: Margo decides Martin needs a bath...Martin sleeps through the whole thing
5:20 AM: BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!
5:21 AM: Get up
5:22 AM: Cats curl up for a nice nap

Lean On Me

This is a typical picture of what it looks like when I come home from work. Little baby Wilson just wants his mama...what can I say?

I know you now love them too.

Margo Wolfe

Well, Margo has officially melted our hearts.  She's here to stay!  =========================e3 (that was just typed by Wilson...
it means he's happy too)
Last night Margo finally came out from under the bed and her and Wilson had some play time and nobody killed anyone so we're seeing progress! She's quite the cuddle bug.  And Martin has learned an important lesson which is to never bring home a homeless pet again with out discussing it first with his wife :)

Surprised?

When I walked into my apartment yesterday I was greeted by my two favorite boys.  One, who is more hairy than the other, was acting a little strangely.  I think the first thing out of my mouth to Martin was "What did you do!?"  I figured it out really fast when I saw another furry black paw sticking out of Wilson's cat carrier.

When I went to visit Martin at work last week we were so enthralled by the fact that a cat that was up for adoption looked EXACTLY like Wilson, except a girl.  We thought for sure they were siblings separated at birth.

Martin was very sweet and thought I really wanted this other cat so he brought her home for a trial stay...to see how her and her lost brother got along.  Let's just say there's not much brotherly love right now.   Last night was pretty fun when I was awoken abruptly by the sound of hissing and low growling and then an 8lb cat body landing on my face.  Martin slept through the whole thing...

The funny thing about the two of them is that they both have unique old man features.  Wilson has extraordinarily long toe hair and Margo has extraordinarily long ear hair.   Maybe they are meant to be together.  So far today there has been very little hissing and now they are both sleeping in their established places in the apartment. Wilson looks like he's probably chasing Margo in his dream right now...his little feet are moving so fast.

I feel like we're new parents again...scared, uncertain, wondering if the first born will be jealous or think we don't love him anymore.   I guess it just takes time and soon they will be best friends...or so we've been told :)

which ones which?

Christmas Card Photo Shoot

let's just say someone wasn't having any part of this whole family photo shoot idea...

Ta daaa!!
